Author Biography

After college and two years of army service, I went on to teach for 36 years in Spring Grove, a small town in southern Pennsylvania midway between Lancaster County's Amish country and the Gettysburg battlefield.

For twelve years I taught high school business courses and coached basketball and baseball. An unexplainable urge for change led to my switching to teaching middle school students for the remainder of the 36 years.

It was during that time, displeased by the emphasis on free verse in our reading textbooks, that I began to write rhymed, metered poems for and about middle school life to share with my classes.

Upon retiring I stopped writing poetry and devoted my time to golf, painting, and travel. My favorite part of each day is the two or three hours spent each morning painting while listening to a Baltimore all-classical music radio station.

About a year ago, I came across the binder containing my old poems. I decided to update and revise them and am now writing new ones.

In addition to submitting poems to WritersNetwork, I've also recently opened my own website (tweenverses.com) to display only those poems intended for young readers. My efforts are now divided between promoting that website and participating in WritersNetwork.

I have and continue to get enormous pleasure and satisfaction from the contact with the many talented writers here.
