'Malpa" means "Friend" in the Pitjantjatjara Indigenous Australian language. My real name is John Wiley. My first exposure to Pitjantjatjara was as a child at Oodnadatta about a thousand kilometers north of Adelaide. I have since spent a significant part of my life in the Australian "bush" and always feel more at home (I say my soul expands.) when I am back there. My life is now divided equally between a retirement village in the city (Adelaide) and a small country cottage at Laura in the Southern Flinders Ranges.
