Mrs. Her
|
This is about my 7th grade Social Study teacher, in this story, she will be known as Mrs. Her
Mrs. Her was the kind of teacher that lets her emotions change how she taught. For example, if her period A class was loud and noisy, she would say: “Period A made me very annoyed, so you guys better watch out how you behave.” The Social Study class was split into 3 coteries: Be Green, Berry Beast Mountains, and Bay of Clear Water. The group names we made up all started with a ‘B’ because we are Mrs. Her’s period B class. She gave every group “richings” when we helped her, such as: helping her clean up, behaving well, etc. She charged “riching” taxes when someone from a group did not behave well. Most of the taxing rules were fair, but with one of them I have to disagree. She charged a repeat tax if any of the students asked a question that was already answered. Some people might not be paying attention, but others may just be making sure in case they misunderstood. If someone got taxed, the group would get mad with the student, causing the student to be scared of asking questions. Instead of asking Mrs. Her questions, students began asking each other. In that case Mrs. Her also charged a talking-tax.
She also liked to tease students. A student in our class didn’t like asking Mrs. Her questions. Mrs. Her said that if the student asked her one question, the coterie the student was in would receive 60 “richings”, which was a lot. When the student finally asked a question, Mrs. Her said that it was too late.
I also think that the way she gave us extra points was unfair. It was not based on a system, but at her whim. She said that she usually didn’t give extra credits. She thought that giving extra points was a way to help the student cheat. Yet, she awarded extra points secretly. I think giving extra points is a good incentive when the reasons are clear.
She made us glue all of our works into a notebook, calling it the Interactive Notebook. The papers that we glued on are bigger than the notebook page, so we would also waste time trimming the papers. She said that doing this would help us in the future because we could study our Interactive Notebooks. I think that later on, every student would be using the Internet and would just throw the Interactive Notebook in the trash bin. I am not alone with this complaint. In addition, the thing weighs a ton.
Recently, when I was grading an Interactive Notebook of the person on my left, the teacher got angry with me. The Interactive Notebook I was grading belonged to a boy that just came from China, called Corrie. Corrie glued his work in the wrong order. I asked the teacher how it should be graded and she said something that didn’t answer my question. I asked her again and she yelled at me. That left me feeling badly and my question unanswered.
