I AM ALIVE

I am an oak whose leaves and branches

Have been burnt to ashes

Due to a mega forest fire

Yet my base is still standing

I am alive despite my lusterless appearence

I am alive even though nightingales

Can no longer perch on me

I am alive because of my defiance

Many lumberjacks have tried to befall me

But their chainsaws always break

My life is a struggle

However I refuse to be cut down

Sometimes I hear song birds in the distance

It makes me joyous and sorrowful

At the same time

Resilience!
A very wonderful poem and precisely why I consider the roach one of the most respectable creatures on the planet earth, because of their resilience. The oak from the poem is all but dead, has been scarred in life and on the verge of dying still undergoes attempts to cut it down but I respect the resilience it shows in spite of all that, and the hope in the poem expressed by the oak. First it says birds can no longer perch on it but then it says it sometimes hears the songs of the birds and it makes it both joyful and sorrowful. Also expresses Job's words, "There is hope even for a tree". A strong poem. Thanks for sharing.

While the roots...
..are still intact ...I am alive. My faith in nature for my purpose here on earth is strong. I will survive as my support is strong: my belief that you will nurture and sustain me for the good of all who rely on me! Thanks for sharing this profound piece. Wishing you a 'writeful' and satisfying year, my friend.
