THE TANGLED WEB

A lie is not a pretty thing,
It's ugly and corrupt.
It starts out small and minimal,
But grows and gets built up,

By things we say and things we do,
To get us out of trouble,
That came about by other things,
Till all's lost in the shuffle,

Of stories told to cover up,
And save ourselves the shame,
Of being caught with dirty hands,
And losing a good name;

For when we first begin to lie,
Thinking "self-protection",
We seldom stop to realize,
It won't stand close inspection;

For even if we fool our friends,
And hosts of other people,
eventually the truth comes out,
And we see all the evil,

That comes about from our deceit,
And truly selfish ways,
So honesty is always best,
Deception never pays.

It's just a tangled web of lies,
That takkes away self pride,
And strips away your dignity,
Just leaving guilt inside;

So when you think to tell a lie,
First think about the cost.
It's simpler just to tell the truth,
For that way less is lost.

"HAVE TWO GOALS: WISDOM - THAT IS KNOWING AND DOING RIGHT - AND COMMON SENSE. DON'T LET THEM SLIP AWAY FOR THEY FILL YOU WITH LIVING ENERGY AND ARE A FEATHER IN YOUR CAP."
Proverbs 4:21-22
(In other words: Wisdom and honor go hand in hand, so do foolishness and shame.)

SO TRUE!
Another good poem and words of wisdom. I like the way you have added a Bible quote to the end of your poem to kind of summarize it and to help make your point. And, of course, then no one can argue with your conclusion because the Bible is always the last word on what is right and what is wrong, yesterday, today, and tomorrow, unchanging forever. Keep on writing your little gems of wisdom. I hope you get time to do that and to publish them again for everybody to enjoy.

truthful
Your piece is well done! The flow is smooth, the rhyme works and the many messages are well receieved! I know of cases where pathological lieing has completely ruined lives. We would do well to take your words to heart. Write on and on

Good piece.
Lies are never right to say no matter what the matter. I have trold some in my dey and it isnt right to tell them. Ever. But people wil do it to get out of a scape. Immediately. This is a good piece for a person to read. i am glad that I read it. I wish you all the best in your writing career. cubby says keep writing and keep up the good work.
