Strut To Heaven's Door

The man had soul
and rock and roll
was the song style
he did best.
Some tears I cried
when I heard he'd died
and gone on
to his rest.

You had a bright smile
plus swag and style
and a walk
most could not do.
Your heart is kissed
and you are missed
by all those
who still love you.

So Mr. Berry
you will not tarry
as you strut
to Heaven's door.
And your legacy
to them and me
will stand
forevermore!

Michael "Bless You Chuck!" Gallatin

Author Notes

I had to compose a tribute to one of the greats of rock and roll. I think of Chuck Berry to rock and roll as I think of Gordon Lightfoot to folk, giants of each genre. I was lucky to see Mr. Berry once here in Rochester, NY and I took my wife along. He was not only a fine singer but also a crazy guitar player and one Hell of a showman. Rest in peace Sir for you have certainly earned that right!

A great tribute to a legend. Probably meaning more to our age group but he certainly left his mark. Well done Mike and thank you. Rod.

Chuck Berry
A master of the newly formed era of rock 'n' roll. His presence will always be felt throughout the development of music!

Hail, hail
He was indeed quite a showman. Of all his songs, the one I remember most is "The Promised Land," probably because the story it tells begins in my hometown, Norfolk, Va.
A very nice tribute to a great performer.
