Rimbaudian summers

The lindens are lining the promenade
how we wish we were seventeen again
their branches arching ever skyward
framing Vincent's starry manifold
swallowing every thought and sound
each caveat, each dolce far niente
now fading and then pulsing with the
rising and ebbing of rhythmic tides
how serious this business of life is;
our limbs intertwine as we scramble
shaking sand from between our toes
we sit on wicker recliners and imbibe
beverages that splash down so loudly
with the crashing of frolicking waves

My wife is Italian...
and was born near Naples. She lived there until she was thirteen. Joanne still loves the sea and becomes a little girl again anywhere near the water. It's beautiful! So this poem resonates with me. It's what I wish I was doing with Joanne right now. Thank you!

Times and places
Unless I am misreading it, this poem is simultaneously a meditation on life taking place in the present and a recollection of times past. The speaker alternates between noting the beauties of nature now and recalling sensuous memories of adolescent love, possibly taking place in the same location. The effect is interesting, the alternation seeming to heighten both perception and memory. The language is accessible, evocative and spare. Very well done piece.

Like how the use of words flow. Love the calm yet amazing rush of words together that you join it makes seem real like I am see what you wrote
